Missy & Joe met at work. They knew each other before they started dating. It was after Joe started being super helpful around the office, even with tasks that were out of his area of expertise, that they decided to go on their first date. Joe also took a liking to tea for a period of time so they could meet for tea breaks during the day and spend extra time chatting. He would also print “official business reports” that were full of goofy faces to make Missy laugh during the day. It was an office romance for sure.

Originally from Syracuse, New York, Missy & Joe now live in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was in their home, with their Labrador, Jack, by his side that Joe proposed.

Missy & Joe’s wedding vision was a Summer vineyard that was bright and airy with plenty of natural light. They chose a color palette of blush, ivory and navy with greenery and flowers.

Why Missy & Joe chose their wedding venue: “We were interested in a tent wedding where the tent was fully draped in ivory and had plenty of natural light. Owera had the added benefit of AC and heat so our guests could be comfortable no matter the weather. We love how quaint Cazenovia is and all our weekend events were within 10 minutes of each other. It made it easy on guests that our rehearsal dinner, welcome event, ceremony, reception, and hotel were all a short drive from each other. Cazenovia is also meaningful to us because we spent as much time as possible there when we lived in NY whether at Owera, the farmers market, on the lake, or in town.”

The Numbers:
Length of Dating: 26 months
Length of Engagement: 15 months
Number of Guests: 160

Missy & Joe’s advice to couples planning now: “Make decisions based on what feels true to you as a couple and what makes you happy. Your choices will be more meaningful the day of the wedding and after the fact than if you make decisions based on what you see a lot of on social media or because of what wedding traditions call for. This will make elements of your wedding even more special including your ceremony and décor. We tried to choose décor we were able to use in our house after the wedding. Those things are now being put to good use and are the sweetest reminders of our wedding day.”

Missy & Joe’s favorite wedding day moments: “Golden hour photos of Joe and I, getting ready with our bridal party, and my first look with my dad. Our dog Jack walked down the aisle before I had a chance to see him. When my dad and I walked down the aisle we stepped over a fallen milk-bone Jack left behind which made us both laugh.”

Missy & Joe’s honeymoon plans: “we’re going to Italy the last two weeks of September. We took some time after our wedding and before our honeymoon so we could fully enjoy each of them. We’ve never been to Italy so we’re incredibly excited. We’ll visit Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, and the Cinque Terre. We are being adventurous by planning the trip ourselves, staying in Airbnb’s, and going off the beaten path in some areas. We’re excited to do two food tours, hike, and drink plenty of wine. Our goal is to simplify and pack only carry-on bags but we’ll see if we can stick to it.”
